Expect off-the-beaten-track trails, local stories and unforgettable views.

What You’ll Experience and Learn

This personal tour of the Burren showcases everything that makes this land unique and feels a little like peeling back layers to reveal a secret place. As you walk, you’ll come upon many ancient ruins including megalithic tombs, stone forts, and early Christian monastic settlements. A highlight is the Poulnabrone Dolmen, a megalithic tomb that is between 5,200 and 5,800 years old, dating back to the Neolithic period, around 3200 to 3800 BCE.

Learn the fascinating history of the Burren, with its miles of 350-million-years-old exposed karst pavement and fossil fields. You’ll get a first-hand experience of what living off the land in the Burren is like, and learn about the traditional method of faming here, known as ‘wintering.’ You’ll follow ancient farming paths and follow lengths of dry-stone walls, built in a style unique to Ireland. We’ll show you the rare flora and unique plant habitats of the Burren and be on the look-out for the Burren’s animal life. Each turn you takes reveals another beautiful view and window into this extraordinary world. Most special of all, you’ll experience the deep and dramatic quiet that defines the Burren.
